Guy Olson
Managing Partner
I started my financial advisor journey with NatWest Bank in 2000, and my first exposure to equity release came in 2002 when I joined Aviva for three years, offering advice to clients looking to release equity from their homes.
Back then, things were very different and our industry has changed dramatically since then. Some might even say reformed! There’s a lot more choice in the market, plans are considerably more flexible and equity release is now a mainstream form of borrowing.
In the years between 2005 and 2011 I remained in financial services, specialising in mortgages, and Corporate Financial Planning for Royal Bank of Scotland.
In 2011 I moved to Dubai and built a successful IFA practice specialising in providing advice specifically to companies and their expatriate staff. Our clients included global brands such as DP World, Mastercard, Hyatt and Boston Consulting Group amongst others.
On returning from the Middle East (and having to adjusted to the cold again) I started working for a small equity release broker in the West Country. But competing with the largest equity release advisors was frustrating and as the saying goes, “if you can’t beat them, join them”. So I spent five years at Age Partnership. Eleven months as an advisor and the remainder as part of their Management Team.
During that time I came to understand that big isn’t always better, both from a client and staff perspective and with that in mind I knew it was time for a change. I knew people should to be at the forefront of a business strategy, whether they're clients or team members.
It's for this reason The Equity Release Partnership was opened. To provide a home to clients that like the personal touch, and advisors that should feel appreciated for the effort they put into their work making client dreams become reality.
So if you’re reading this page as a prospective client then my promise to you is this. At The Equity Release Partnership you'll find honest and professional advice given by people who care about you. That they'll hold your hand throughout the process and guide you to a solution tailored to fit with you and that you're completely comfortable with.
If you’re reading this as an advisor looking for a new home, then you’ll find yourself appreciated and respected. Our business is called a Partnership for a reason. Let’s work together to make you and your career as successful as possible and help as many people as we can.
I’m told it’s also a good idea to share some personal information about myself, in case the above hasn’t done the job! Feels more like writing a dating profile this bit!!
I’m currently 46, and live with my partner Donna and our slightly bonkers Springer/Poodle cross called Archie who you can see in the picture above.
When I’m not working you can find me playing golf (WHS handicap at time for writing is 11). I’m a member of the Caterham & Lotus 7 Club and a Life Member of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) at Lords Cricket Ground. On a sunny summers day you’ll find me there with friends enjoying a glass or two of red wine, or I'll likely be barbecuing at home with friends and family.
There may be a fee for mortgage advice, the exact amount will be based on your circumstances & will be agreed following your initial meeting. A typical fee is £1,495 payable on completion.
